Why tell stories?

When we share our stories, we invite people into connection. This can be through shared emotions and values, as well as through memory. Neuroscience tells us that we're more likely to remember new information when it is presented to us as a story. And as marketer Seth Godin says, "People do not buy goods and services, they buy relations, stories and magic."

An important disclaimer

Our stories can be incredibly personal. While sharing ourselves and our stories can be an asset, my intention is never to pressure you to tell peers, clients, or strangers on the Internet more than you feel comfortable with. In addition, the prompts themselves may bring up difficult memories or challenging emotions. I invite you to only engage with the prompts that feel safe, manageable, and inspiring for you in the moment. You are welcome to step away from a prompt, or this entire document, for as long as you need. It'll be here!
